The world-renowned website building system WordPress has officially released version 7.0, codenamed Armstrong. As the first major update for creators, businesses, and developers in 2026, the standout feature of this release is the native integration of artificial intelligence capabilities, marking the official entry of web building into the intelligent era.
This upgrade was developed by over 875 contributors, bringing more than 420 feature enhancements and bug fixes. The official release defines this version as the starting point of a new phase, restructuring the backend interface and development tools to offer users a more unified and seamless website building and editing experience.
Native AI Empowers Content Creation
With the new version, an AI client is embedded in the core architecture, enabling seamless communication with various generative AI models. Combined with newly introduced capability interfaces and AI plugins, users can now generate and edit images directly, automatically write article titles and summaries, and even fill in image alt text with a single click in the backend.
In addition to server-side improvements, the new version introduces a client-side capability package that integrates an interactive interface and command panel via JavaScript on the front end. This innovative design provides website administrators with a richer hybrid AI experience, greatly simplifying the process of producing and refining web content.

On the interface management side, WordPress 7.0 adopts a more modern management theme, unifying visual elements such as the admin page header, customizer, and color picker.
