Microsoft is currently evaluating an enhanced Windows 11 feature that brings AI-powered file search capabilities directly into the Copilot application. This experimental functionality is being distributed to Windows Insiders using Copilot Plus PCs, introducing more natural language search capabilities for locating documents and media files.
While Copilot already enables basic file searches by name, modification date, or file type, this upgrade expands search functionality to understand descriptive queries like "locate that Mexican chicken recipe document." This advancement builds on Microsoft's earlier introduction of AI-enhanced search tools for Copilot Plus devices this year.

Microsoft is simultaneously testing a redesigned Copilot dashboard that intelligently surfaces frequently accessed applications, recent documents, and ongoing AI conversations. When users select applications from the guided assistance section, Copilot initiates an interactive screen analysis mode, providing contextual help tailored to visible content.

Additionally, the system now supports image-based queries - users can select recently accessed photos from the interface sidebar and request contextual information from Copilot about the visual content. These experimental features are being distributed to all Insider program participants through Microsoft Store updates.
