Abnormal AI joins OpenAI’s Daybreak programme, as Mike Aiello says the partnership will accelerate the adoption of practical defences for enterprises

Leading frontier AI firm OpenAI, has partnered with Abnormal AI to help the enterprise securely wield the best in class AI models across its business and product development.

The collaboration will see Abnormal expand its use of OpenAI models while the two companies explore avenues for enhancing security capabilities for the detection, investigation and response to threats.

The partnership brings together Abnormal’s expertise in behavioural security with OpenAI’s frontier AI capabilities.

With its mission of using AI to stop cybercrime,Abnormal protects more than 4,500 organisations – including more than 25% of the Fortune 500 – using proprietary Behavioural AI to identify sophisticated attacks that conventional, rules-based security tools can miss.

Protecting and empowering people

This strategic partnership, Abnormal says, starts with a “shared commitment to using AI to protect and empower people”.

It will focus on helping businesses move AI projects into production more quickly while maintaining the visibility, governance and control required in enterprise environments.

Abnormal will use OpenAI across areas including engineering, customer operations and security workflows. Both firms also intend to share lessons from these deployments to develop practical approaches that can help other organisations adopt AI safely.

OpenAI Daybreak partnership brings AI to cyber defence

Abnormal will be joining the OpenAI Daybreak Cyber Partner Program as an early security partner. OpenAI had launched Daybreak with the goal of putting “put frontier intelligence in the hands of trusted defenders everywhere”.

The company had recently expanded this programme with specific tiers called Daybreak Blue and Daybreak Red.

As part of this new collaboration, Abnormal and OpenAI will explore how OpenAI’s frontier models and Codex Security can complement Abnormal’s Behavioural AI. Potential capabilities include monitoring AI agent activity and identifying anomalous behaviour as autonomous systems increasingly populate the modern workflows.

Abnormal’s core detection and response products will continue to be powered by its proprietary Behavioural AI, maintaining the company’s focus on identifying threats through behavioural patterns rather than relying solely on traditional security rules.
