WeChat Harmony Edition Update Introduces AI Music Feature

The WeChat HarmonyOS app recently began sending out invitations for an update to version 8.0.17.16 via the Huawei AppGallery. The update window runs from April 20, 2026, to May 19, 2026. Users who receive an SMS notification can install the update through a provided link. Those who haven't received an invitation are advised to wait.
While the update primarily focuses on fixing known issues, user reports indicate it also introduces several notable new features. Firstly, the HarmonyOS version of WeChat now supports the newly launched Video Channels feature, allowing registered users to also edit their Video Channels profile. Furthermore, the video playback page within Video Channels has added both auto-rotate and manual rotation options, offering a more flexible viewing experience.
More significantly, the "Listen" feature has received a major upgrade. Users can now set their favorite songs as a status update and jump directly to QQ Music to play them. Simultaneously, "Listen" has gained new "Song Creation" and "Music Space" functions, which support AI songwriting and AI cover singing. This feature is currently in a limited gray-scale test and has not yet been released on Android and iOS platforms.
Since its official launch on the Huawei AppGallery last January, the HarmonyOS version of WeChat has seen continuous functional improvement. It now supports all major features including basic messaging, social networking, WeChat Pay, Official Accounts, Mini Programs, Video Channels, and live streaming. Its installation count has surpassed 50 million, reflecting broad user adoption.
