Walmart, the global retail giant, recently announced a major organizational restructuring. According to the Wall Street Journal, the company plans to cut or relocate roughly 1,000 corporate positions, primarily within core areas like technology, product development, and artificial intelligence.
Walmart officials say the goal is to consolidate its tech resources worldwide. By streamlining organizational processes, the company aims to clarify responsibilities and ensure that current roles align with the skills needed for future business needs.
Strategic Focus on Accelerating AI
This restructuring is led by Walmart's Global AI Acceleration Department, which was established last year. The department head, along with the chief technology officer, reviewed internal workflows and decided to streamline teams to improve overall operational efficiency.
Although the changes affect thousands of employees, Walmart emphasizes that this is not "AI replacing human labor," but an inevitable step after organizational alignment. Affected employees are required to move to the Arkansas headquarters or the Northern California office center, and the company will help those unable to relocate find internal transfer opportunities.
