The event's theme centers on "the true agent of the Agent Era." Based on recent teasers from the official account "StepFun," this launch is anticipated to introduce a new generation of agent terminal products.
A previous report from Science and Technology Daily stated that Step Star is preparing to launch an AI terminal brand, an agent system, and its first AI agent phone. Notably, OpenAI has publicly backed the next generation of AI terminals but plans to release them only in 2027. Step Star's early move to implement an AI agent phone positions it as the first among global large model manufacturers to take this step.
Huqin Technology handles deep manufacturing, rather than a simple OEM model.
Regarding manufacturing, a source cited by Blue Whale News indicates that the AI agent phone to be launched by Step Star is manufactured by Huqin Technology, a company listed on China's A-share market. The two are not in a simple OEM relationship but have a deeply integrated partnership. Huqin Technology is a global leader in the smart hardware ODM industry, with shipments of smartphones, laptops, and tablets accounting for over 10% of the global market. Additionally, it made a strategic investment during Step Star's B+ funding round and increased its stake in the subsequent C round.
From cloud-based large models to edge-side hardware, Step Star aims to demonstrate with a "native agent phone" that the future of large model companies lies not only in APIs but in end-to-end AI terminal experiences. The July 13 launch event may offer an answer from Chinese large model companies.
