Sam Altman Announces ChatGPT Plans to Permit Adult Erotica Content
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced via X on Tuesday that the company will soon ease certain safety restrictions on ChatGPT. This will enable users to adjust the chatbot’s tone to be friendlier or more "human-like," and permit "verified adults" to have erotic conversations with the AI.
"We initially set ChatGPT with fairly strict limits to prioritize caution around mental health concerns. We acknowledge this reduced the utility and enjoyment for many users without such issues, but the seriousness of the matter required us to proceed carefully," Altman stated. "This December, as we fully implement age verification and adhere to our principle of 'treating adult users like adults,' we will expand permissible content, including erotica for verified adults."
We made ChatGPT pretty restrictive to make sure we were being careful with mental health issues. We realize this made it less useful/enjoyable to many users who had no mental health problems, but given the seriousness of the issue we wanted to get this right.
