While the global workforce remains anxious about AI potentially replacing entry-level roles, social media giant Reddit offers a contrasting perspective. CEO Steve Huffman recently stated on a podcast that Reddit plans not to cut costs but to aggressively hire recent graduates, whom he calls the true "AI-native generation."
Huffman argues these graduates possess a natural competitive edge. Having extensively used AI for learning and task management in university, they bring an innate skill for human-machine collaboration, delivering high productivity from day one.
"Top talent won't wait—it's gone if you don't seize it."
Huffman sees hiring new grads as a race against time. The most exceptional candidates, if not hired immediately, may never re-enter the traditional job market, as their value is quickly recognized, propelling them directly into advanced career paths.
This optimism starkly contrasts with prevalent tech industry pessimism. While others, like Anthropic's CEO, warn AI could eliminate half of entry-level white-collar jobs within five years, Reddit's stance is different. The company believes that even a tenfold AI efficiency gain would lead to "doing ten times the work," not reducing headcount.
Despite Reddit's positive signal, the broader job market faces headwinds. U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics data shows the unemployment rate reached 4.4% in February 2026, with 7.6 million unemployed. In an era where many firms are slowing hiring due to AI shifts, Reddit's expansion plans offer notable encouragement for young professionals.
Reddit has established a dedicated emerging talent team, opening full-time roles in engineering, sales, product, and more, alongside a machine learning internship program called "Snooterns." For Reddit, investing in the AI-native generation is about more than filling roles—it's about securing a strategic advantage in the ongoing technological transformation.
