According to the latest polling average from Nate Silver's Silver Bulletin, Elon Musk's popularity among Americans is on the decline. Musk, the billionaire CEO known for his involvement in numerous ventures, has recently been most prominent in his role at the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). This organization has been making waves by aggressively restructuring the US government's administrative framework.
The Silver Bulletin reports that 53.5 percent of Americans now view Musk unfavorably, a sharp rise from the 38 percent at the start of 2024. Conversely, only 39.6 percent hold a favorable opinion of him. Nate Silver explains that his method for tracking Musk's ratings mirrors that used for President Trump, though adjusted to be "slightly more conservative" due to less frequent polling on Musk.
Reasons Behind the Shift in Public Opinion
The uptick in negative sentiment towards Musk seems to be fueled by his high-profile backing of Trump's second Presidential campaign, which included paying voters, and his subsequent activities with DOGE. His work at DOGE has led to significant federal agency layoffs and attempts to access sensitive government sectors, such as the IRS, the US Treasury's payment systems, and the Social Security Administration.
While Silver Bulletin's figures provide a snapshot of Musk's declining popularity, other media outlets like Fox News, Politico, and Axios have also reported on the growing public distaste for the billionaire.
Electoral Impact in Wisconsin
The backlash against Musk may have tangible political repercussions, as seen in the recent Wisconsin Supreme Court election. Musk's effort to support a conservative candidate using similar voter-paying tactics as those used during Trump's campaign appears to have misfired. Over half of Wisconsin voters disapproved of his involvement, with a significant portion indicating it swayed their vote away from the conservative candidate. As reported by The Washington Post, this led to a 10-point victory for Democrat-backed Susan Crawford, maintaining the court's 4-3 liberal majority.

Elon's popularity dropping? Not surprised! His antics can be a bit much sometimes. But hey, he's still doing big things, so I guess it's a mixed bag. 🤷♂️

이론의 인기가 떨어지고 있다고? 놀랍지 않아요! 그의 행동이 때로는 과격하니까요. 하지만 그는 여전히 큰 일을 하고 있으니, 뭐 괜찮아요. 🤷♂️

A popularidade do Elon está caindo? Não estou surpreso! Suas atitudes podem ser um pouco exageradas às vezes. Mas ei, ele ainda está fazendo grandes coisas, então acho que é uma mistura. 🤷♂️

¿La popularidad de Elon está bajando? No me sorprende. Sus payasadas pueden ser demasiado a veces. Pero oye, sigue haciendo cosas grandes, así que supongo que es una mezcla. 🤷♂️

Elon's popularity is tanking, huh? No surprise there, he's been all over the place lately! The tool's cool for keeping up with public opinion, but I wish it had more detailed breakdowns. Still, it's a quick way to see where people stand on him. Keep it up, but maybe add some more depth next time? 🤔
