In a strategic move to reignite user engagement, OpenAI is preparing a significant shift. According to recent reports, the company intends to directly integrate its video generation model, Sora, into its flagship ChatGPT chatbot. This approach aims to leverage ChatGPT's vast active user base to drive renewed interest and usage for Sora .
The standalone Sora application initially made a significant impact following its September 2025 release. However, recent limitations on the variety and quantity of videos it can produce have led to a noticeable dip in its popularity. Integrating Sora into ChatGPT is viewed as a crucial step for OpenAI to remain competitive and capture a larger share of the AI-powered content creation market. OpenAI plans to maintain the standalone Sora app alongside the integration to cater to diverse user needs.
Nevertheless, embedding a computationally intensive video generator into a chatbot represents a substantial investment for OpenAI . To manage these high operational costs, the company is likely to introduce a points-based monetization system, similar to the current standalone app model. More intriguingly, bolstered by a previous $1 billion investment from Disney, OpenAI may unlock premium paid features. This could potentially allow users to incorporate authorized Disney classic characters into their video creations.
From launching the ChatGPT browser Atlas to developing its AI music generator, OpenAI is rapidly building a comprehensive media creation ecosystem. Integrating a film-quality tool like Sora directly as a feature within the ChatGPT interface promises to dramatically lower the barrier to high-end video creation for a mass audience.
