OpenAI has made a significant strategic move regarding its digital assets. Recent reports indicate the company has likely secured ownership of the premium domain GPT.com, further solidifying its brand dominance in the generative AI sector.
According to a domain tracking service, GPT.com has been transferred to MarkMonitor, a corporate-grade domain registrar, and now has Whois privacy protection enabled. While an official announcement is pending, the domain now redirects visitors to ChatGPT.com. This method mirrors OpenAI's previous approach when it acquired the domain Chat.com.
Historical records indicate GPT.com was previously owned by an Australian firm named Global Payment Technologies Australia and directed to its corporate site. The domain was moved to a new registrar in late 2025 and recently triggered a DNS change alert. Notably, OpenAI's primary site, OpenAI.com, and the previously acquired Chat.com are both managed through the MarkMonitor platform. This centralized asset management pattern strongly supports the evidence of the acquisition.
"GPT," which stands for Generative Pre-trained Transformer, has become synonymous with large language model technology.
