OpenAI Targets Wearable API for ChatGPT Glasses, Brockman Says Early Prototype

Greg Brockman, OpenAI's CEO, recently outlined the company's forthcoming focus on the human body during a New York press meeting. He expressed strong interest in embedding ChatGPT and its AI capabilities into wearable devices, particularly smart glasses. "We're definitely very interested in integration," he said. "I see this as a natural use case for APIs — to extend access so anyone can integrate."
Brockman disclosed that OpenAI is exploring API-based access for third-party devices, enabling hardware like smart glasses to leverage voice interaction features similar to ChatGPT Live. He believes this could become a universal interface for interaction, available across all devices. However, he acknowledged that the API is still in its early stages and has significant development ahead.
Currently, certain smart glasses on the market (e.g., Rokid's products) can invoke OpenAI's models, but this does not provide full account-level access to ChatGPT. Companies like Meta, Google, and Samsung are also speeding up their own AI glasses initiatives. Brockman noted that OpenAI aims to eventually let users directly access tools like ChatGPT or Codex via wearable devices, offering more comprehensive control than what's possible within a mobile app — going beyond the limited interactions on a screen.
Regarding OpenAI's own hardware plans, Brockman only hinted that the direction might differ from current wearable devices, without disclosing specifics. He stressed that widespread device integration depends on new APIs — wearables require continuous background operation and processing of multimodal inputs like camera feeds. He categorized this integration as part of OpenAI's long-term vision, though it remains at the exploratory stage.
