OpenAI Acquires Team from Executive Coaching AI Platform Convogo

OpenAI is starting the new year with another strategic talent acquisition. The AI leader is bringing on the team from Convogo, a business software platform that enables executive coaches, consultants, talent leaders, and HR teams to automate and enhance leadership assessments and feedback reporting.
An OpenAI representative confirmed the company is not acquiring Convogo's intellectual property or technology, but instead hiring the team to contribute to its "AI cloud initiatives." The three co-founders—Matt Cooper, Evan Cater, and Mike Gillett—will join OpenAI through what sources describe as an all-stock transaction.
Convogo's platform will be discontinued.
The startup originated from a weekend hackathon inspired by a question from Cooper's mother, an executive coach: Could AI eliminate the tedious task of report writing, allowing her to focus on the human-centered coaching she values? Over two years, Convogo has supported thousands of coaches and formed partnerships with leading global leadership development firms, according to an acquisition announcement email from Convogo.
In their communication, the team explained that their work revealed a crucial challenge: bridging the gap between emerging AI capabilities and practical real-world applications.
"We're increasingly convinced that closing this gap requires intentionally designed experiences, similar to what we developed for coaches at Convogo," the founders stated. "That's why we're excited to join OpenAI and continue our mission of making AI practical and valuable for professionals across all industries."
According to PitchBook data, the Convogo acquisition represents OpenAI's ninth acquisition within a year. Most previous acquisitions have either integrated products into OpenAI's ecosystem—such as Sky's Mac AI interface or Statsig's testing platform—or resulted in product discontinuation as teams joined OpenAI, as seen with Roi, Context.ai, and Crossing Minds.
