Nintendo Confirms Switch 2

After days of speculation, Nintendo has finally put to rest rumors about the technology in the Switch 2's Joy-Cons. In a recent interview with *Nintendo Life*, Nate Bihldorff, Senior Vice President of Product Development & Publishing at Nintendo of America, clarified that the new controllers do not use anti-drift Hall effect joysticks. When asked about the unique feel of the Switch 2’s Joy-Cons compared to the original Switch, Bihldorff stated, “The Joy-Con 2’s controllers have been designed from the ground up. They’re not Hall Effect sticks, but they feel really good.” Following the Switch 2 presentation last week, Nintendo shared insights from the console's designers in an Ask the Developer discussion. Switch 2 producer Kouichi Kawamoto explained that the company "redesigned everything from scratch for Joy-Con 2... Compared to the Joy-Con controllers for Switch, the control sticks are larger and more durable, with smoother movement. We’ve also made Joy-Con 2 bigger to match the larger console.” Despite confirming the absence of Hall effect sensors, Nintendo remains tight-lipped about the exact technology used in the Switch 2’s Joy-Cons. This leaves fans wondering whether the new console sticks with the potentiometer-based joysticks that caused drift issues in the original Switch, or if Nintendo has enhanced this technology to improve the Joy-Con's durability. Alternatively, could they be using tunneling magnetoresistance technology, which might offer a solution to joystick drift and other advantages over Hall effect sensors? We'll have to wait for Nintendo to reveal more details or for the Switch 2 to hit the market and be taken apart to uncover the secrets inside those controllers.

I was hoping for Hall Effect joysticks in the Switch 2's Joy-Cons, but no luck! 😢 Still, I'm excited about the new console. Maybe the drift issue won't be as bad this time? Fingers crossed! 🤞

So, Nintendo confirmed that the Switch 2's Joy-Cons don't use Hall Effect joysticks. I was really hoping for better drift resistance. Guess I'll have to stick with my old ones for now. Disappointing, but thanks for clearing up the rumors! 😕
