Mozilla Partners with Mistral to Bring AI Models to Firefox Smart Window
Mozilla has partnered with French AI startup Mistral to integrate the Mistral model into Firefox, enhancing the experimental "Firefox Smart Window" browsing experience.

Designed for complex, multi-tab tasks, the Smart Window helps users analyze search results, retrieve past information, organize tabs, and answer questions based on current browsing context. This launch marks the feature's expansion beyond the US and Canada, now available in French for users in France, with UK and German versions expected later this year. Mozilla and Mistral are also optimizing the model for various regional languages and cultural nuances.
Privacy remains central to this partnership. Mistral has committed to zero data retention, ensuring conversations are not saved on Mozilla's servers by default. Mozilla CEO Anthony Enzor-DeMeo emphasized the importance of keeping the browser open to diverse AI innovations rather than locking it into a single company's closed ecosystem.
This collaboration highlights Firefox's commitment to balancing generative AI integration with privacy, an open ecosystem, and localized user experiences.
