MIIT: AI-Powered New Year Greetings Drive Mobile Data Traffic Surge During Spring Festival
Today, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology released new data indicating that China's communication networks ran smoothly during the 2026 Spring Festival, with mobile internet traffic growing rapidly. Notably, the "AI+" initiative deeply enriched digital life over the holiday, as innovative applications like AI-powered New Year greetings and celebrations gained popularity, adding a distinctive highlight to this year's festivities.

Mobile Internet Traffic Hits New Records: During the nine-day Spring Festival holiday (February 15 to 23), cumulative mobile internet traffic reached 87.83 million TB, an 18.7% increase year-over-year on a comparable basis. Traffic peaked on the fifth day of the Lunar New Year, with nearly 1 million TB processed in a single day.
Leading Apps Continue to Dominate: Apps like Douyin, WeChat, Kuaishou, Tencent Video, Bilibili, and Xiaohongshu remain the primary traffic drivers, accounting for nearly 70% of all network data.
Deep AI Integration: Telecom operators have rolled out AI-powered creation and interactive services, leveraging cloud, network, and computing resources. Beyond AI-powered New Year greetings, the industry has deployed large models to create "digital employees" that enable intelligent inspections and fault diagnosis, significantly boosting operational efficiency during the holiday.
