Mihoyo’s AI Companion BSide: Olivia Lin Shuts Down Weeks After Launch; Offline Version Available Today
miHoYo has confirmed that its desktop companion application, "BSide: Olivia Lin," will officially shut down on August 31. This closure comes less than a month after the software entered early access on Steam on July 13. To ensure users can retain certain features, the developer has released an offline version that must be downloaded before 15:00 Beijing Time on the final day. Even after server operations cease, select functionalities will remain accessible.
The offline mode preserves key companion interactions
According to the official announcement, the offline version enables users to locally listen to character "Lin Li's" performances and utilize the desktop dynamic wallpaper feature. These core functions will continue to operate independently after the servers go offline. miHoYo emphasized that Lin Li will maintain essential companion capabilities in this mode, allowing users to keep experiencing the associated content without an internet connection.
miHoYo noted that despite the brief operational period, they received valuable user-generated content related to Lin Li, such as vinyl record listening sessions, written letters, and uploaded melodies. Regarding data management, all letters, MIDI creation files, music libraries, and related assets must be saved and backed up before 15:00 on August 31, when the servers close. Following the service termination, the company will process user data in compliance with applicable laws and privacy policies. Please note that online content cannot be viewed or recovered post-shutdown and will not be migrated to the offline version.
