Leading AI image platform Midjourney has expanded into healthcare, launching its first hardware device: a full-body ultrasound scanner. Named the Midjourney Scanner, it uses an ultrasound ring sensor to capture 3D internal images with quality rivaling MRI.
Midjourney plans to open a wellness center in San Francisco by late 2027, deploying around 10 units. Developed with Butterfly Network, each system integrates 40 ultrasound chip imaging modules.
Innovative Sound Wave Scanning Experience
Users step into a shallow pool as the platform descends, passing through a ring with thousands of transducers. The system emits ultrasound waves from all directions, recording echoes to reconstruct high-precision 3D images in about 60 seconds using up to 2 PFLOPS of computing power.
Midjourney likens this to "dolphins using echolocation," offering a magical wellness check experience. Over a dozen people have already participated in early tests.
Focusing on Body Composition and Compliance
To reduce regulatory hurdles, Midjourney currently focuses on body composition maps without medical diagnostic functions. For official medical use, the device must still receive FDA approval.
While the link to Midjourney's AI art tech is unclear, the company promises detailed data policies before launch. This radiation-free, convenient imaging could soon allow people to freely access their body data.
