Microsoft's Chief AI Officer, Mustafa Suleiman, has announced the launch of MAI-Image-2, its second-generation image generation model. This new model made an impressive debut in the authoritative LMArena benchmark, soaring directly to the third-highest global ranking.
On the LMArena leaderboard—often called the "ultimate proving ground" for AI image generation—MAI-Image-2 has quickly turned heads. It now sits just behind Google's Gemini-3.1-flash-image-preview and OpenAI's GPT-image-1.5-high-fidelity.
