Microsoft has announced plans to roll out major updates to its enterprise Edge browser next month, focusing on strengthening compliance management for AI tools within organizations. The core aim is to curb "shadow AI"—the unauthorized use of AI services by employees without IT department approval.
Per the latest Microsoft 365 roadmap, IT administrators will gain elevated permissions to configure Edge browser settings according to enterprise security policies. When employees attempt to access unapproved third-party AI platforms, the system will automatically block the request, preventing sensitive corporate data from leaking.
Blocking Several Widely Used AI Tools
Within the new management interface, administrators can easily block dozens of mainstream AI tools, including ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Qwen (Tongyi Qianwen), and DeepSeek. The list also covers creative AI tools like Adobe Firefly and specialized applications such as Grok and Notion AI.
This "blacklist" mechanism goes beyond a simple ban—it redirects office traffic to more secure channels. Through unified control measures, Microsoft aims to eliminate data security blind spots that enterprises may face in the age of AI.
One-Click Transition to Official Compliance Channels
Instead of showing plain error messages, blocked pages will feature a prominent guidance button. Clicking it will redirect users directly to a pre-configured Microsoft 365 Copilot new tab page, enabling a seamless switch in office workflows.
