The influential entertainment review aggregator Metacritic, often called "M Site," has issued a firm statement outlining strict new measures to combat AI-generated reviews. This move aims to uphold the platform's authority, built over 25 years.
Metacritic's founder noted that shifts in the media landscape have led to declining content quality on some sites after acquisitions or team changes. Issues include plagiarism, unauthorized content use, and fraudulent AI-written reviews. In response, M Site has adopted a clear "zero-tolerance" policy:
Immediate Removal: The platform will instantly delete any detected AI-generated review content.
Permanent Ban: During investigation, M Site will suspend cooperation with involved outlets; if fraud is confirmed, they will be permanently removed from the listed sites.
This policy appears prompted by a recent public controversy. The outlet Videogamer published a review on M Site for "Resident Evil: Requiem" (also referred to as "Resident Evil 9"). The article's odd logic led many players to question if it was AI-generated, casting doubt even on the author's authenticity.
