January AI News Announcement

For over two decades, we've been diving deep into machine learning and AI, pouring resources into research, tools, and infrastructure to create products that enhance everyday life for more folks. Across Google, teams are exploring how AI can revolutionize sectors like healthcare, crisis management, and education. To keep you in the loop, we're rolling out a regular update on Google's latest AI developments across our products and research.
Let's take a quick look at some of our AI highlights from January.
We kicked off 2025 with a mission to bring AI's benefits straight to you, showcasing some of our latest AI breakthroughs from 2024. We rolled out a major performance boost with Gemini 2.0 Flash in the Gemini app, making it faster, more powerful, and more helpful for brainstorming, learning, or writing. At Galaxy Unpacked 2025, we revealed how Gemini Live, our conversational assistant, is getting even more versatile. Now, users on the Samsung Galaxy S24, S25 series, and Pixel 9 can enhance their conversations by adding images, files, and YouTube videos, helping them brainstorm, organize thoughts, or dive deeper into complex topics. Plus, we made Circle to Search more useful than ever, putting AI right at your fingertips.
We highlighted how Google AI is making waves in education in 2025. We joined the crowd at BETT in London, Europe's largest edtech event, to show how students and teachers can leverage Google AI tools to speed up learning and boost retention. This month, we also spotlighted how startups are harnessing AI to customize learning and enhance educational outcomes.
We announced that Google Cloud's Automotive AI Agent is rolling out to Mercedes-Benz. Google Cloud introduced the Automotive AI Agent, a fresh approach for automakers to craft helpful, interactive experiences for drivers. Mercedes-Benz is one of the first to jump on board, offering more than just voice control; it lets drivers have natural conversations and ask questions like, "Is there an Italian restaurant nearby?"
We shared five ways NotebookLM Plus can boost your business. NotebookLM is your go-to for understanding complex stuff, and this month, we expanded our premium NotebookLM Plus to more Google Workspace plans. It's all about helping businesses and their teams with everything from sharing notebooks and centralizing projects to making onboarding smoother and learning more engaging with Audio Overviews.
We unveiled new AI tools to help retailers build gen AI search and agents. At the National Retail Federation's annual NRF conference, Google Cloud demonstrated how AI agents and AI-powered search are already streamlining operations, personalizing shopping experiences, and getting the latest products and experiences to customers faster.
Three Google leaders took a deep dive into Google's AI progress in 2024. Over the past year, we've ramped up our efforts to push AI's boundaries responsibly and boldly for the benefit of humanity. This month, Demis Hassabis, James Manyika, and Jeff Dean shared their reflections on a year filled with major scientific breakthroughs (including a Nobel Prize!), AI-enhanced product updates, advancements in robotics and hardware, and new models designed for the agentic era.
We opened applications for the next Google.org Accelerator: Generative AI. Generative AI has the potential to tackle some of humanity's biggest challenges — if people have the right training, tools, and resources. That's why Google.org launched the six-month Generative AI Accelerator program to support nonprofits and other organizations. The latest round of applications opened with $30 million in funding: Apply by February 10, 2025 at g.co/Accelerator/GenAI.

Two decades of R&D and we're barely scratching the surface! 😳 Healthcare and crisis management applications give me hope, but I keep wondering... will these AI tools actually reach regular families or just remain exclusive to big corporations? The infrastructure part sounds promising though.
AI in healthcare sounds promising, but I wonder how it’ll handle privacy concerns. Exciting stuff, though! 😄
AI in healthcare sounds promising, but I wonder if it'll really make a difference for regular people or just be another tech buzzword. Excited to see where this goes! 😄
January AI News Announcement is a bit of a letdown. I was expecting more concrete updates on how AI is being used in healthcare and crisis management, but it's mostly just general talk. It's interesting to see Google's efforts, but I wish there were more specifics. Maybe next time they'll dive deeper into the details!
