iPhone 15 Pro Receives Major AI Boost with Visual Intelligence Upgrade

If you're rocking an iPhone 15 Pro or Pro Max, you're in for a treat with the latest iOS 18.4 developer beta. This update brings a nifty AI-powered feature that was previously exclusive to the iPhone 16 lineup.
Visual Intelligence Now on Older Models
Launched just this Monday, the new beta opens up the world of Visual Intelligence to users of these slightly older models. This feature, once only available on the iPhone 16, allows you to perform web searches and ask questions about anything you see through your camera—be it people, places, or things.
New Ways to Trigger Visual Intelligence
The iPhone 16 models use a physical Camera Control to kickstart Visual Intelligence, but since the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max don't have this button, Apple's come up with alternative ways to activate it. Now, users of the iPhone 15 Pro models, as well as the iPhone 16, can use the Action button to launch Visual Intelligence. The beauty of the Action button is its customizability, letting you set it up for various functions.
Additionally, the new beta introduces a way to access Visual Intelligence right from the Control Center. A simple swipe down from the top of your screen will reveal an Apple Intelligence section, where you can activate Siri, use Type to Siri, or trigger Visual Intelligence with ease.
How to Use Visual Intelligence on Your iPhone
Here's how you can get started with the latest developer beta:
- On your iPhone 15 Pro, Pro Max, or any iPhone 16, navigate to Settings and select Action Button.
- Swipe through the options until you find Visual Intelligence and set it as your preferred action.
- When you're out and about and something catches your eye—be it an animal, a plant, a landmark, or a business—point your camera at it.
- Hold down the Action button or select Visual Intelligence from the Control Center.
- You'll then have two options: tap Search to run a Google Search on the object, or tap Ask to pose questions about it, which ChatGPT will try to answer.
Official Release on the Horizon
Last month, Apple confirmed to John Gruber of Daring Fireball that the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max would indeed receive Visual Intelligence. Although they didn't pin down a specific date, Gruber speculated it would come with iOS 18.4. With the current version being only the second developer beta, we're looking at a few more updates before the official release in April.

Wait, so they're giving the iPhone 15 Pro the fancy AI stuff from the 16? That's actually pretty cool of Apple, not just forcing an upgrade. Makes me wonder if my phone has more hidden potential they're slowly unlocking. 🤔
The AI boost on iPhone 15 Pro sounds dope! Visual Intelligence on older models? That’s Apple flexing hard. Can’t wait to see how it stacks up against my buddy’s iPhone 16. 😎
