iOS27 to Launch Standalone Siri App With Chatbot Interface

With less than a month to go before Apple's 2026 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), renowned tech journalist Mark Gurman has shared new insights into iOS 27. In the upcoming system, codenamed "Rave," Siri is making a comeback as a standalone app — marking the first time in 15 years that it regains a dedicated entry point.
The updated Siri functions as an always-on intelligent assistant, with a chatbot-like interface that supports conversation history, file uploads, and content pinning. Its interaction style closely resembles that of ChatGPT and Gemini. Notably, Siri integrates deeply with the Dynamic Island — when activated, the Dynamic Island expands to show a "Search or Ask" option. A new global gesture triggers a system-wide search panel when swiping down from the top center of the screen. The search bar also lets users switch between different AI engines — including Siri, ChatGPT, and Gemini — with a single tap, marking Apple's first move toward giving users system-level AI choice.
In terms of AI models, Apple entered a multi-year partnership with Google in January 2026. The next-generation base models will be built on Google's Gemini model and cloud technology, powering Apple's intelligent features — including the new Siri. This shift represents Apple's move from a "full-stack self-research" approach to a more "platform open" strategy, aiming to fill gaps by integrating external AI capabilities while keeping control over privacy and security.
Additionally, the Camera app is getting a major overhaul, letting users customize which functions appear and where they are placed — including controls for flash, exposure, timer, and resolution.
Financially, Apple's second quarter of fiscal 2026 delivered strong results, with total revenue of $111.184 billion — up 17% year over year. Net profit reached $29.6 billion, an increase of 19.4% year over year, both setting second-quarter records. Revenue from China hit $20.497 billion, up 28.09% year over year, the highest growth rate among all global regions.
That said, users in China will still need to wait patiently for the new Siri and Apple Intelligence. The actual launch date hinges on regulatory approvals. If things go smoothly, it could further boost Apple's competitive edge in the country's high-end smartphone market.
