HomeiOS 27 AI Upgrades Unveiled: Auto-Tagging Photos and Redefining iPhone Interaction
On April 16, technology outlet MacRumors reported that by analyzing the backend code of iOS 27 Beta, it discovered at least four new Apple Intelligence features in development. These updates highlight AI's practical uses and suggest Apple's Visual Intelligence is laying groundwork for future hardware like smart glasses, camera-equipped AirPods, and other wearable ecosystems.
For core capability upgrades, Visual Intelligence will introduce two deeper interaction features. First, Nutrition Label Recognition will let the system automatically scan and extract data from food packaging, syncing it with the Health app for automated diet tracking. Second, Printed Information Recognition will support extracting phone numbers or addresses directly from printed materials and adding them to Contacts with one tap, improving on the prior limitation of only recognizing dates.
Additionally, Apple Wallet will gain Physical Coupon Digital Scanning, using AI image recognition to quickly convert event tickets, membership cards, and similar items into digital passes. The Safari browser will also receive Smart Tag Group Naming, which automatically generates category names based on the theme of pages within a tab group, streamlining management for users with many open tabs.
While these four features remain in the code-inference stage, their practical potential appears strong, especially alongside Apple's plans for deeper, cross-app Siri integration in iOS 27. Apple is expected to unveil iOS 27 officially at its WWDC 2026 developer conference in June, with the public release scheduled for September alongside the next-generation iPhones.
