First Look: Nintendo Switch 2 Teardown Reveals Internal Design

While it's already June 5th in some parts of the world, marking the release of the Nintendo Switch 2, detailed reviews have yet to surface. However, the YouTube channel ProModding has already provided a comprehensive look inside with a 17-minute teardown video. The footage offers clear close-ups of the console's custom Nvidia processor.
The disassembly process seems relatively simple for those with the right tools and a willingness to void the warranty. The main hurdles are a few screws and latches cleverly concealed beneath stickers on the sides, alongside the usual delicate ribbon cables and connectors.
The teardown doesn't reveal major hardware secrets, but ProModding made several key observations. While the new Joy-Con controllers attach more securely to the Switch 2 than before, a slight wobble remains. Nintendo continues to use the same thermal paste formulation as the original Switch, a component some enthusiasts have historically upgraded to boost performance and console longevity.

Additionally, the channel criticized the redesigned folding stand on the back, calling it "too flimsy." They warn of a "high risk of breakage" if users attempt to open it from just one side.
For a definitive take on repairability, many will be waiting for iFixit's official analysis. Notably, iFixit recently downgraded the original Nintendo Switch's repair score from an 8/10 in 2017 to a 4/10. This reassessment reflects factors like its battery design and the higher repairability standards set by newer competitors like the Valve Steam Deck, rather than the well-known Joy-Con stick issues.
