Google recently rolled out a major update to its Quick Share feature, broadening compatibility with Apple's AirDrop for file transfers. This move means more mainstream Android devices will soon be able to seamlessly trade files and images with Apple users.
As Android's answer to AirDrop, Quick Share already integrated AirDrop interoperability late last year. With this latest update, several new flagship models—including the Samsung Galaxy S26 series, Pixel 10 series, OnePlus 15, Honor Magic V6, and Xiaomi 17T Pro—now come with native support built in.
Upgraded Two-Way File Transfer Experience
In practice, users on both platforms can easily discover each other and send files by enabling the right permissions in system settings. Once an Android user turns on "Share with Apple Devices," Apple users see that Android device directly in the native AirDrop interface, and the receiving process feels identical to a native Apple experience.
For Android devices that haven't received native Quick Share support yet, the system offers a handy workaround: they can generate a unique QR code and use cloud services to share files with Apple users.
Expanding to More Devices
Notably, this cross-platform transfer solution isn't limited to smartphones—it also works smoothly between Android devices and iPads and Macs. This is a big win for users who own multiple platform devices, finally breaking down the long-standing ecosystem barriers.
According to Google's roadmap, the rollout won't stop here. Over the coming months, the feature will gradually reach more devices, including the Motorola Razr Fold 2026, OPPO Find X8 series, and Honor Magic8 Pro.
