Today, Google unveiled the AI Campus in London, with UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer in attendance to support this innovative initiative aimed at boosting digital skills in the UK. Located in Somers Town, Camden, the Campus is a collaborative effort with Camden Council and Camden Learning. It hosts a two-year educational pilot designed to inspire, inform, and educate local sixth form students about AI. The pilot provides students with access to state-of-the-art AI and machine learning resources, along with mentorship and industry insights from Google and Google DeepMind. Students will also engage in real-world projects that link AI to diverse areas such as health, social sciences, and the arts, helping them understand how AI can tackle both local and global challenges. The first group of 32 students, reflecting Camden's diverse post-16 student population, has already started the program. Priority was given to students from underrepresented groups, including those eligible for Free School Meals. Starting mid-2025, the Campus will extend its reach to a broader range of Camden students, offering out-of-school learning and support to enhance their access to technology, digital skills, and foundational AI education, as well as AI-focused masterclasses. The AI Campus embodies Google's mission of making the world's information accessible and useful, a vision that started in a garage over 25 years ago and remains relevant as we embrace AI innovation. With a new £865,000 grant from Google.org, the Raspberry Pi Foundation is expanding the success of Experience AI, a free educational program developed with Google DeepMind. This funding will help the Raspberry Pi Foundation and ParentZone scale the program and provide essential teacher training across the UK, aiming to reach an additional 250,000 students by the end of 2026. Google's dedication to enhancing the UK's skills is ongoing and aligns with our goal to use AI to improve lives nationwide, ensuring everyone can benefit from AI, no matter their background. We've already trained over a million people and businesses in the UK on digital and AI skills, working with governments, trade unions, NGOs, and local communities. We've also launched the AI Works program to find the best ways to speed up AI skills adoption and increase productivity across the UK. By providing top-notch AI education, we're setting the stage for the next generation to lead the way in using AI for transformative purposes. This effort will not only boost the UK's global competitiveness but also drive scientific breakthroughs that can change and save lives.
