Google debuts Mixboard, an AI mood board creation app.
Google enters Pinterest's domain with its latest AI venture, Mixboard, a tool that lets anyone craft AI-driven mood boards.
This new service rivals Pinterest's collage feature, where users build mood boards from saved Pins and images.
With Mixboard, you don't need a personal image library to begin. Users can kickstart a project using text prompts, and the AI will provide inspiration. (Pre-made, editable boards are also available for a creative head start.)

Once images are AI-generated, you can instruct the AI to edit, tweak, or even merge them. This functionality is powered by Google's new image editing model, Nano Banana, praised for handling complex edits and producing realistic results.
This launch follows Google's Gemini AI app displacing ChatGPT from the top of the U.S. App Store charts.
By integrating Nano Banana into Mixboard, Google directly addresses user interest in the model. The tool is designed for brainstorming across various areas like home decor, event planning, and DIY projects, combining both visual and textual ideas.

Pinterest saw viral growth with its collage app Shuffles, popular with Gen Z for making creative TikTok content, features later folded into the main app. Other players in this space include the now-closed Landing, the AI creative app Verse (a likely inspiration for Mixboard), and Depop, which just launched a collage tool to help users style and sell fashion items.
Google states that Mixboard's creations can be reimagined using options to "regenerate" images for fresh ideas or to request "more like this." The AI can also generate descriptive text based on the images in a board.
U.S. users can try Mixboard by visiting labs.google/mixboard. A Discord community is also open for participants.
