Google Chrome Introduces AI-Powered Shopping Summaries for U.S. Users
Google has introduced an update to its Chrome web browser, bringing AI-generated store reviews to U.S. shoppers. This feature is designed to help customers quickly identify the best places to shop. By clicking an icon located just to the left of the web address, users will see a pop-up summarizing a store's reputation across key areas like product quality, shopping experience, pricing, customer service, and return policies.
Initially available only in English, these summaries are generated by analyzing reviews from a network of partners, including Bazaarvoice, Bizrate Insights, Reputation.com, Reseller Ratings, ScamAdviser, Trustpilot, TurnTo, Yotpo, and Verified Reviews.
The feature will first launch on the desktop version of Chrome. When asked for comment, Google did not confirm if or when these AI summaries would be made available on mobile devices.

The feature also strengthens Google's competitive position against retail giant Amazon, which has been leveraging AI to summarize product ratings, help customers find clothes that fit, and provide personalized product recommendations and comparisons.
This update comes at a time when Chrome, for the first time in years, faces potential competition in the global browser market.
New AI-driven browsers, such as Perplexity's Comet, The Browser Company's Dia, Opera Neon, and a potential future offering from OpenAI, have prompted Google to more deeply integrate AI into its own browser. For instance, Google is working on an AI agent capable of controlling Chrome to perform actions on a user's behalf. Additionally, the company recently added support for its Gemini AI assistant in Chrome for Gemini subscribers.
The introduction of store reviews is part of a larger Google initiative to evolve into a comprehensive, modern shopping platform for consumers.
The company has already deployed AI to help users find products they're interested in, receive personalized recommendations, and virtually try on clothes. It is also developing improved price-tracking tools, a feature for shopping within Google's AI Mode, and an AI-powered agentic checkout system. (The latter two were announced at this year's Google I/O developer conference, with outfit and room inspiration in AI Mode scheduled to launch this fall.)

Interesting move by Google! AI summarizing reviews could save time, but I wonder how it handles nuanced feedback or fake reviews. Hope it's more than just a popularity aggregator. 🤔
Resumos de compras com IA no Chrome, uma boa ideia? Parece mais uma forma de as grandes empresas monopolizarem a nossa atenção e escolhas, guiando-nos para lojas que lhes são convenientes. E a veracidade desses resumos gerados por IA? Fico desconfiado 😒. E para utilizadores fora dos EUA, isso não acaba por nos isolar ainda mais da informação real? Mais uma vez, apenas os utilizadores americanos têm acesso. Típico.
