Gemini-Powered Google Home App: A First Look

Following the announcement that Google is integrating Gemini into its Home smart home platform, it seems the company is updating the Google Home app with these new functions. Android Authority examined code from the upcoming v3.41.50.3 version of the app and discovered a major redesign.
Although the overall user interface hasn't changed dramatically, several usability improvements make the app more streamlined while highlighting Gemini.
Screenshots shared by Android Authority and detailed in a YouTube video show a new "Ask Home" feature. This lets you control devices by typing or speaking commands, or search your video and activity history to get detailed summaries of past events. A new Ask Home search bar at the top of the app opens a dedicated conversation screen for these interactions.

- Google’s redesigned Home app was a long time coming
Google previously confirmed that Gemini for Home will come to smart speakers and displays, enabling natural language voice control for smart devices. It makes sense that this functionality would extend to the Home app.
Other updates noted by Android Authority include renaming the Favorites tab to Home and removing the Devices and Settings tab from the bottom bar, leaving only three options. The Devices section can now be accessed through a grid icon within the Home tab.
You’ll also be able to add outdoor air quality and temperature as a favorite tile, and there are new icons for video and a thermometer on the Home screen. The latter may hint at upcoming Nest hardware, which is expected to launch next month.
I hope this major app update will also roll out the many features Google has been testing in its Public Preview program to all users.
