Google's latest Drive updates now offer Workspace users deeper insights into their saved video content. A Gemini AI feature, previously used for summarizing documents and PDFs in Google Drive, is extending its capabilities to video files. This allows users to grasp the key points of a video without needing to watch it in full.
The Gemini in Drive feature presents users with a recognizable chatbot interface, capable of generating concise summaries of the footage or extracting specific details. For instance, you could ask Gemini to identify action items from a recorded meeting or pinpoint the main announcements in a product launch video, eliminating the need for manual note-taking and review.
This functionality relies on having captions enabled for the videos. You can access it either through Google Drive's preview overlay or by opening the video in a new browser tab. Initially available in English, it's rolling out to Google Workspace and Google One AI Premium subscribers, as well as those with existing Gemini Business or Enterprise add-ons; however, the full rollout might take a few weeks.
