G42 and Cerebras form alliance to deploy supercomputing power in India

At the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi, UAE-based technology firm G42 and American chipmaker Cerebras announced a partnership to deploy an 8-exaflop supercomputer system in India.
The system will be hosted within India, adhering to all local data residency, security, and compliance regulations. Its goal is to supply AI computing resources to universities, government agencies, and small-to-medium businesses.
“Sovereign AI infrastructure is now a critical component of national competitiveness. This initiative delivers that capability at scale to India, empowering local researchers, innovators, and enterprises to integrate AI natively while ensuring complete data sovereignty and security,” stated Manu Jain, CEO of G42 India.
The project also includes Abu Dhabi’s Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence (MBZUAI) and India’s Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC). Last year, MBZUAI and G42 introduced Nanda 87B, a Hindi-English large language model based on Meta’s Llama 3.1 70B, designed to comprehend conversational Hindi and English.
“Installing this system in India represents a major advancement for the nation's computational power and sovereign AI ambitions. It will speed up training and inference for large-scale models, allowing local researchers and developers to create AI solutions specific to India's requirements,” said Andy Hock, Cerebras's chief strategy officer.
The summit this week featured the launch of several AI infrastructure projects by both Indian conglomerates and international companies.
Adani Group committed $100 billion to develop up to 5 gigawatts of data center capacity by 2035. Reliance also announced a plan to invest $110 billion over seven years for gigawatt-scale data centers.
