Podcasts are increasingly becoming a key platform for breaking news and in-depth analysis. The AI-powered news app Particle, built by a team of former Twitter engineers, has now rolled out a significant feature upgrade. With the launch of its Android version, the app introduces the core feature "Podcast Clips", designed to bridge the gap between text-based news and audio commentary.
Podcast Clips: From 45 Minutes to 45 Seconds
Unlike traditional news aggregation, Particle uses AI to identify and extract the most relevant highlights from various podcasts tied to a specific news story. Users no longer need to listen to an entire episode just to catch a 45-second key opinion. Instead, they can play the corresponding audio commentary directly while reading the news report. This feature also supports real-time text highlighting, making it easy to follow along in silent mode.
Sara Beykpour, CEO of Particle and former Senior Director of Product Management at Twitter, notes that this design reflects the evolving news ecosystem. Today, tech CEOs and public figures increasingly choose podcasts for major announcements. Using vector embedding models, Particle matches podcast segments to related news stories with precision, and pairs this with ElevenLabs' transcription technology for accurate service delivery.
Comprehensive Entity Tracking and a Multi-Dimensional News Feed
Particle’s strength lies in its robust entity recognition. Users can access dedicated pages for specific individuals (such as Sam Altman), locations, or topics, and view all related podcast recordings and news articles in one place.
The newly released Android version also brings several updates:
Interactive Exploration: Tapping on a specific entity takes you to a dedicated page with definitions, related reports, and connected topics.
New Content Sections: The "Browse" tab now features real-time trending topics, including the 2026 Winter Olympics.
Global Perspective: Data shows Particle has significant global reach, with 55% of users outside the United States — and India has become its second-largest market.
Monetization Push: Particle+ Subscription Service
To begin building a revenue model, Particle has launched the Particle+ subscription service ($2.99 per month or $29.99 per year). Subscribers gain access to premium features such as personalized voice summaries, customized news feeds, unlimited AI chatbot conversations, and crossword puzzles.
