EU in Urgent Talks with Anthropic as It Prepares 'Strongest' Cybersecurity AI Model

The rivalry between AI and cybersecurity is increasingly playing out on the geopolitical stage. The European Commission has recently scheduled emergency meetings and negotiations with AI startup Anthropic, aiming to obtain detailed information about its mysterious security large language model, "Mythos," and is strongly pushing for its availability within the EU region.
The Deadly Allure and Export Security Restrictions
The EU's keen interest in Mythos stems from Anthropic's earlier disclosure that the model exhibits an extraordinarily high sensitivity in identifying, discovering, and exploiting cybersecurity vulnerabilities. Because of this dual-edged nature, which could introduce significant cybersecurity risks, cross-border access would likely require formal approval from the U.S. government before any release. Despite these export restrictions, Anthropic still plans to broadly launch a series of new commercial models in the coming weeks, with cybersecurity protection and detection capabilities reportedly on par with Mythos.
Divergent Speeds Among Big Players Widen Compliance Gaps
Previously, Microsoft-backed OpenAI had already opened access to its cutting-edge GPT-5.5-Cyber security model for the European Commission, helping the EU boost its digital defenses. In contrast, Anthropic has been extremely cautious about granting access to Mythos. Insider sources indicate that although the EU has initiated positive negotiations with Anthropic to secure access rights, the overall progress and depth of engagement still lag significantly behind what OpenAI has provided.
