Douyin Cracks Down on AI Content, Punishes 14,000 Accounts for Policy Violations

Douyin has recently launched a special campaign targeting the use of AI technology to generate pornographic and low-quality content. This year, the platform has addressed over 42,000 pieces of non-compliant content and imposed tiered penalties, including bans and access restrictions, on 14,000 accounts, effectively combating online illicit industries.
The operation specifically targets black-market operations that use AI to fabricate false identities and post suggestive videos to redirect users. Investigations reveal that some violators employ AI-generated images of attractive women as live stream covers or profile pictures to lure users to third-party pornographic apps. To date, 339 related accounts have had their live streaming privileges permanently revoked, and a criminal gang of four involved has been detained by authorities for suspected illegal use of information networks.
Douyin clarified that using AI to create suggestive "borderline" content with revealing attire violates both platform policies and relevant laws. The platform has currently banned or demoted 8,421 accounts that persistently posted such material and has forwarded related illegal evidence to public security agencies.
Moving forward, Douyin will continue to upgrade its technical capabilities to better identify and block AI-generated harmful content. The platform encourages users to join in resisting vulgar material to help maintain a positive online environment.
