On May 4, Douyin revealed its paid subscription plans on its App Store listing, clearly outlining a tiered system to complement the existing free model and boost professional user capabilities. The listing shows three options: a Standard Edition at 68 yuan per month (688 yuan annually), an Enhanced Edition at 200 yuan per month (2,048 yuan annually), and a Professional Edition at 500 yuan per month (5,088 yuan annually), catering to different usage needs.
While subscription prices are now publicly visible, the paid entry points and feature modules have not yet been launched within the Douyin app. Douyin’s official statement says the platform will continue offering basic free services while exploring additional value-added features to address diverse needs. The detailed plan is still in testing, and final release details will be announced through official channels.
According to sources close to the project, the paid features Douyin plans to introduce are aimed at high-complexity, productivity-focused scenarios, including PPT generation, data analysis, and film and television content creation. As the underlying model continues to improve, the product has built the technical foundation to handle more advanced tasks. However, these tasks require significantly more computing power and longer inference times, which has become a key driver for the subscription model. The free version is expected to continue covering general Q&A and lightweight use cases.
From an industry perspective, Douyin’s introduction of a tiered payment system reflects the shift of generative AI products from “accessible and affordable” to “value-based segmentation.” By precisely pricing computing power and capabilities, this approach enhances commercialization efficiency while retaining a large user base.
