Deezer Reports Over 50% of Daily Uploads Are AI Music, Plans to Remove Unplayed Content After Six Months
Deezer, a major music streaming service, recently revealed alarming statistics: AI-generated tracks now make up over half of its daily uploads. In June, the platform recorded a surge in AI music submissions, averaging roughly 90,000 tracks per day.
This flood of AI content is pushing leading streaming services to redefine their content policies, though industry-wide agreement remains elusive. Bandcamp has outright banned AI-generated songs, while Tidal has disabled monetization for such content. Apple Music employs a voluntary tagging system for AI tracks, and Spotify has implemented its own usage guidelines. Deezer’s latest move involves removing AI-generated songs that have gone unplayed in the last six months, along with content involved in view-fraud schemes to generate revenue.
Deezer CEO Alexis Lanternier emphasized in a recent statement, "Deezer has been leading the charge against fraud and mitigating the revenue dilution caused by AI music for the past two years. With half of daily uploads now being AI-generated, we are implementing further measures to safeguard the rights of artists and songwriters, ensuring our focus remains on the music fans genuinely enjoy."
Reviewing Deezer’s tracking data reveals a steady acceleration in AI music expansion. In January 2025, daily AI track uploads stood at approximately 10,000, representing 10% of total daily submissions. By April, this figure rose to 20,000 (18%), reaching 30,000 (28%) in September, and climbing to 50,000 (34%) in November. As 2026 began, January saw 60,000 uploads (39%), April hit 75,000 (44%), and June peaked at 90,000.
Since last year, Deezer has introduced tags for AI music on its platform, noting that its detection technology can identify tracks produced by AI music startups like Suno and Udio—two companies currently embroiled in copyright lawsuits. Earlier this year, Deezer made its detection technology available to other platforms, though it remains uncertain whether any major services have adopted the tool. Last month, Deezer also launched a feature to screen for AI-generated tracks within playlists on Apple Music and Spotify.
