Deezer, a music streaming platform, recently published a report highlighting a significant rise in AI-generated music uploads. These tracks now make up nearly 44% of daily song uploads. The platform receives roughly 75,000 AI-created songs each day, surpassing two million per month.
The rapid growth of AI music is striking. Over the past year, what was once a niche field has gained considerable prominence. Music generation platforms now enable users to produce full songs using simple text prompts. This shift highlights a transformation in music creation and distribution.
However, Deezer points out that despite the surge in uploads, listening patterns tell a different story. AI-generated tracks currently account for just 1% to 3% of total plays on the platform. This suggests that while supply is growing, demand is still relatively low.
The rise of AI-generated music has sparked several industry concerns, including fraud. Deezer estimates that a significant portion of play data for AI tracks comes from bots, which can manipulate royalty payments. Issues of originality and copyright have also come under scrutiny, as many AI models are trained on existing music, raising questions about unauthorized use of artistic works.
