China's AIGC Animated Film 'The Family Reunion Edict' Eyes Late February Release

"The Reunion Mandate," China's first full-process AIGC animated film, held a Beijing premiere event titled "Unity Across the Straits for Reunion," officially announcing its nationwide theatrical release date of February 28. The official "Homecoming" trailer was also debuted. A portion of the film's box office earnings will be donated to support the cause of national reunification.
The production was jointly guided by the Central Committee of the China Democratic League and China Media Group. It received technical backing from the China Media Group's National Key Laboratory of Ultra-High Definition Audio-Visual Production and Presentation. The film is a co-production between Beijing Guanmu Interactive Entertainment and Xin Yinglian Film & Television, representing an innovative application of new quality productive forces within the cultural sector.
The film's creative origins run deep. Its intellectual property was first launched in 2014, drawing inspiration from the giant pandas "Tuantuan" and "Yuanyuan," gifted by the mainland to Taiwan, to create the core sibling characters "Tuanzai" and "Yuanniu." Centered on the emotional journey of "separation, search, and reunion," the story follows Tuanzai as he harnesses the power of the Five Elements on a quest to find his sister. It is a heartfelt tale that underscores the profound bonds between compatriots and reflects the shared aspirations of people on both sides of the strait for peace, development, exchange, and cooperation. Every frame is infused with the beauty of Eastern aesthetics.
The film held an advance screening in Beijing on December 20, 2025. Its development followed key milestones including project initiation, production, wrap-up, and trailer release. The lengthy preparation process brought together the efforts of numerous industry partners. As a technological innovation, "The Reunion Mandate" utilizes the fully AI-driven animation production platform independently developed by Beijing Guanmu Interactive Entertainment—a project included in the Beijing Science and Technology Plan and inspected by the National Radio and Television Administration. This platform enabled an end-to-end AI production process, from character design and scene composition to final shot rendering.
The production team addressed persistent industry challenges through technological breakthroughs, solving issues such as maintaining character consistency, overcoming stiff micro-expressions, and ensuring logical continuity across scenes. They achieved precise capture of subtle facial expressions and seamless long-sequence actions, with image quality reaching 4K ultra-high definition. The deep integration of AI technology significantly boosted creative efficiency, generating 20 character design options in under 30 seconds and enabling automated scene rendering. This innovation compressed the traditional animation production cycle from 2-3 years down to 5-6 months, allowing the creative team to dedicate more focus to the story's core and its artistic expression.
