HomeChina Replaces All K-12 Textbooks, Lowers Difficulty and Integrates AI into Classrooms
This week marks the official start of the autumn semester for primary and secondary schools nationwide, bringing a series of new adjustments to compulsory education. Textbooks for three core subjects, previously piloted in phases starting in autumn 2024, are now fully implemented across all primary and junior high schools. The updated Chinese, Mathematics, and English editions are officially in use countrywide.
Education experts note that the new Chinese textbooks for grades one to six feature fewer texts than before. In Mathematics, simple equations have been moved to junior high, with only practical skills like ruler and compass drawing retained in elementary school. English vocabulary requirements have shifted slightly, avoiding increased memorization burdens. The new textbooks align better with students' cognitive development, slowing knowledge introduction to improve quality and reduce workload. The teaching team confirms that overall difficulty remains balanced with previous versions, preventing sudden spikes in challenge.
Concurrently, the Ministry of Education's "Artificial Intelligence + Education Action Plan" emphasizes literacy. As textbook adjustments take place, AI education is rapidly entering classrooms on a large scale.
