Capsule Secures $12M Funding to Develop Next-Gen AI Video Editor for Brands
Capsule, the innovative video editing platform, has announced a significant upgrade to its AI-powered assistant, tailored for marketing, sales, and media teams. This enhancement comes on the heels of a successful $12 million Series A funding round, signaling strong investor confidence in the company's direction.
The latest version of Capsule's studio software introduces an AI co-producer that offers real-time suggestions to enhance storytelling. According to Capsule's co-founder and CEO, Champ Bennett, the new features aim to make video editing more interactive. "It'll be more of an interactive experience where the AI suggests things to improve your video's clarity and performance," Bennett shared with TechCrunch. The goal is to empower users without professional video editing skills to create compelling video stories.
The AI co-producer enables users to provide prompts like "Create a sizzle reel from our latest event." In response, the AI will recommend suitable footage from the brand's media library, suggest the best sequence for clips, and even advise on the placement of titles and graphics. This functionality streamlines the entire video production process, making it more efficient and user-friendly.
Capsule is also rolling out a new feature for real-time collaborative editing. This tool allows team members to work on different parts of a video simultaneously. For example, one person can edit the video's opening while another focuses on the conclusion. This complements Capsule's existing commenting feature, which facilitates communication and feedback within the video timeline.

Since its public launch in October 2024, following a beta phase in 2023, Capsule has caught the eye of major companies like HubSpot, Instacart, and Ramp. The platform's AI studio is designed to cut down editing time and accelerate post-production with features such as automatic transcription, intro summarization for title cards with brand-specific graphics, image generation, and text animations.
Capsule offers a free version alongside a paid enterprise subscription, reflecting its commitment to accessibility and scalability. Bennett highlighted the platform's growing adoption, noting, "About a third of our revenue last year was from expansion."
The Series A funding round was led by Innovation Endeavors, with contributions from HubSpot Ventures and notable angel investors including Frame.io founder Emery Wells, former Twilio executive François Dufour, Ramp co-founder Karim Atiyeh, and Instacart's chief marketing officer Laura Jones, among others. Capsule's existing investors include Bloomberg Beta, Human Ventures, and Swift Ventures, bringing the company's total funding to $19.75 million.
With the fresh capital, Capsule plans to bolster its team by hiring more product designers, visual designers, and AI engineers, and expanding its sales force to further drive growth and innovation in the video editing space.
