ByteDance reshapes AI strategy as large model ARR hits $4 billion amid integration with collaboration tools and core models
On July 30, ByteDance unveiled a significant restructuring of its AI division, splitting the Feishu collaboration platform team and integrating its components into the Doubao and Volcano Engine units. This strategic shift is designed to enhance the integration of large language models with cloud services, specifically targeting enterprise productivity workflows.
Key to this organizational overhaul is the elimination of internal silos. The Feishu team will merge with the Doubao team under a unified leadership structure managed by Zhao Qi, Doubao’s head. Xie Xin, Feishu’s previous leader, will now report directly to Zhao Qi. Meanwhile, the remaining staff will be aligned with Volcano Engine to accelerate commercialization efforts and technological integration.
Regarding business expansion, ByteDance shared its latest financial metrics. Based on average consumption rates for July, the annualized revenue run rate for its large model business has hit $4 billion. This figure exceeds the combined revenue of other domestic AI competitors, highlighting the company’s robust market position and successful commercialization strategy.
