As artificial intelligence accelerates, coding speed has reached unprecedented levels. Yet, a critical question remains: how trustworthy is the vast volume of code produced by large language models? For development teams, rigorous testing and verification have emerged as a formidable hurdle. This urgent need has propelled Blacksmith, a startup dedicated to code validation, into a phase of rapid expansion.
The company recently secured a $4.5 million Series B funding round, spearheaded by PeakXV Partners, with participation from existing backers GV and Y Combinator. In a remarkable turn, its valuation has skyrocketed nearly tenfold in under a year, climbing from $60 million following a $10 million Series A to an impressive $550 million, bringing total funding to $5.85 million.
Established in 2024, Blacksmith assists enterprises in building, testing, and verifying software prior to deployment. While AI coding assistants like Cursor, Codex, and ClaudeCode have made code generation seamless, quality assurance has become the new bottleneck. Founder and CEO Aditya Jayaprakash notes that as code volume increases, the pressure for verification grows exponentially.
Originally launched as a cloud service for continuous integration workloads, Blacksmith has since broadened its offerings to include Codesmith, an AI assistant that automatically resolves failed code checks. The platform's user base has surged from over 700 a year ago to more than 5,000, featuring prominent clients such as Mercury, Supabase, Clerk, Ashby, and Expensify.
With a lean team of approximately 30 employees, the company has achieved an annualized revenue run rate in the tens of millions, with several key clients spending over $1 million annually. Despite intense competition from GitHub Actions, built-in verification tools in major AI platforms, and the combined might of cloud giants like AWS, Microsoft Azure, and Google Cloud, Blacksmith remains focused on expanding the code tool ecosystem. The team aims to empower developers to write, verify, and merge software with greater speed and efficiency.
