Baidu Unveils General AI Agent DuMate as CEO Li Yanhong Introduces DAA Metric

On May 13, at the Create 2026 Baidu AI Developer Conference, Baidu founder Robin Li introduced the first key metric for the AI era: Daily Active Agents (DAA). Li explained that while token count measures input cost, DAA more accurately captures the output value and overall health of the AI ecosystem. As the industry's focus shifts from raw model capability to practical execution, agents are emerging as the central players in the application layer. He forecasted that the global number of daily active agents is poised to surpass 10 billion in the coming years.
On the evolution of agent forms, Baidu officially launched its general-purpose agent, DuMate (Baidu Partner), along with its mobile application. This product represents a pivotal shift from AI chatbots focused on information retrieval to versatile agents capable of completing complex tasks. Simultaneously, Baidu unveiled "Franchise", an agent with self-evolution and autonomous decision-making capabilities. It achieves continuous optimization through a closed-loop process of verification and improvement. Furthermore, Li highlighted that digital humans serve as "visible" agents, adding an emotional dimension to task execution.
To address the productivity revolution driven by agents, Li proposed the "Evolution Theory of the AI Era". He advocates for individuals to evolve into multifaceted "super individuals" and recommends that companies adopt an "agent-first strategy". By empowering teams, flattening hierarchies, increasing talent density, and focusing on outcomes, organizations can restructure into effective human-machine hybrid teams. With tools like the code agent "Miaoda", software is transforming into a low-barrier, low-cost "fast-moving consumer good". This trend indicates the software development market holds the potential for tenfold growth.
