AWS AI Exec Departs to Start New Venture

Raj Aggarwal is stepping away from his role at AWS after almost three years, where he served as the general manager of generative AI and revenue acceleration. He shared this news in a LinkedIn post on Wednesday.
In his post, Aggarwal expressed pride in the groundbreaking work his team accomplished in the field of generative AI right from its inception. "We built what might be the world's first large-scale generative AI products — launched to tens of thousands of sellers, used hundreds of thousands of times, driving a 4.9% increase in pipeline generation," he stated.
During his tenure, Aggarwal significantly contributed to AWS's advancements in generative AI, including the development of AI foundation models, the Bedrock AI platform, and Amazon Q, a generative AI assistant tailored for business use.
Looking ahead, Aggarwal plans to "return to his roots" by starting a new venture, though he kept the details under wraps in his announcement.
Aggarwal is no newcomer to the entrepreneurial scene. Before joining AWS, he founded Localytics in 2009, a platform focused on mobile analytics and messaging. Localytics managed to secure over $69 million in venture funding before its acquisition by Upland BlueVenn in 2020. Aggarwal had already moved on from Localytics by 2017.
In 2018, he launched another company, Demand Sage, which specialized in AI-driven sales analytics. Demand Sage raised $3 million in venture capital and was later acquired by Snap in April 2021. Following the acquisition, Aggarwal stayed on at Snap as the head of product and growth within the R&D group until he joined AWS in 2022.
TechCrunch has reached out to both Aggarwal and AWS for further details and comments on this transition.
