Google's experimental app, AI Edge Gallery, has officially launched on macOS. Mac users can now run the latest Gemma AI models locally on their laptops without needing an internet connection.
Because it operates fully offline, the app boosts response speed and ensures user data privacy. Users can engage in intelligent conversations, image processing, and deep semantic understanding without being online.
Multimodal Models Debut
Among the five official models now available for Mac, the standout is Gemma-4-12B-it. Google says this model has been heavily optimized and runs smoothly on Macs with just 16GB of RAM.
It processes text, images, and audio with ease, and excels at writing and understanding code. This turns ordinary laptops into powerful multimodal tools for local data analysis anytime, anywhere.
Offline Speech Recognition Launched Simultaneously
Alongside the gallery, Google also released a free voice transcription app called AI Edge Eloquent. It captures speech and converts it to text in real time, automatically filtering errors and lightly polishing the output.
To avoid misinterpreting industry terms or proper names, it supports custom vocabulary libraries and various writing styles. All audio and text processing happens locally on the device, with nothing uploaded to the cloud.
