Claude and Anthropic Console Services Hit by Widespread Outages

Anthropic experienced a service outage earlier this afternoon that impacted its APIs, Console, and Claude AI assistant.
GitHub and Hacker News users began reporting Claude-related issues around 12:20 PM ET. Anthropic issued a status update eight minutes later, confirming that its APIs, Console, and Claude AI were experiencing downtime. At the time of writing, the company stated it had deployed multiple fixes and was closely monitoring the situation.
"We're aware of a brief API outage that occurred shortly before 9:30 AM PT today," an Anthropic spokesperson informed TechCrunch. "Service was promptly restored."
Anthropic has encountered various technical issues and bugs on its platform before, with several incidents affecting Claude and its models over recent months.
While Claude users waited for service restoration, some made light of the situation. One GitHub user humorously described the software engineering community as "twiddling its thumbs," while a Hacker News contributor recalled a comment from a previous outage: "Nooooo I'm going to have to use my brain again and write 100% of my code like a caveman from December 2024."
