Anthropic Debuts Claude for Word, an AI Assistant for Legal Professionals
Following the earlier integration of Claude into Excel and PowerPoint this year, Anthropic officially launched the beta version of Claude for Word on April 11th. This expansion marks a deeper push into the Microsoft software ecosystem, specifically targeting legal and financial professionals who regularly work with extensive documents.

Deep Integration: A "Second Brain" for Legal Review
Claude for Word goes beyond a simple embedded chat interface, offering deep integration with document workflows:
Precise Citation: Users can ask questions about the document, and Claude's responses include clickable paragraph references that take you directly to the source text.
Intelligent Edit Mode: It can directly edit selected text while preserving the original styling, numbering, and formatting. Users can accept or reject each suggestion individually, similar to reviewing a colleague's edits.
Context Awareness: The tool can process comment threads and accurately rewrite specific text anchored to those comments.
To showcase its practical utility, Anthropic provided several legal use cases, such as summarizing key commercial terms, flagging risk clauses that deviate from standard practices, and converting compensation terms to a "mutual" structure with a single click.
Currently, this add-in is available for Team and Enterprise users.
