Anthropic Breakthrough Opens Strongest Secure Model Mythos to EU
After months of intense negotiations, the European Commission confirmed on Monday that it has reached an agreement with U.S. AI unicorn Anthropic. The highly anticipated company will grant the EU access to its most advanced model, "Mythos," marking a significant step forward in cybersecurity regulatory cooperation between the two sides.

The Double-Edged Nature of Security Vulnerabilities
As the centerpiece of Anthropic's cybersecurity initiative "Project Glasswing," the Mythos model was first made available to a very limited number of companies in April. It boasts exceptionally powerful code auditing capabilities, adept at pinpointing unknown security vulnerabilities and architectural weaknesses in software systems.
However, this powerful capability has also sparked serious concerns, as it could easily become a destructive weapon accelerating cybercrime if exploited by malicious actors. An EU spokesperson for technological sovereignty welcomed the progress in access rights, emphasizing that the move aims to better assess and understand the potential risks posed by next-generation AI technologies.
Technological Sovereignty in the U.S.-EU Dynamic
According to insiders, the U.S. government generally restricts sharing such powerful models with non-U.S. official institutions to maintain its absolute dominance in AI, prompting the EU to ramp up communication with the U.S. administration over the past week. Previously, in May, the EU had already secured access to OpenAI's GPT-5.5-Cyber model.
Currently, a new wave of ultra-powerful models is rapidly entering the market, making technology regulation a shared challenge for the global community. Beyond Anthropic, U.S. authorities have also recently reached agreements with Google DeepMind, Microsoft, and xAI to ensure the government can conduct safety assessments of these top AI models before their public release.
